Travel: 30% travel (Local and International)

Job Purpose
The Head of Strategy, Programme Effectiveness, and Learning is responsible for leading the team that designs and implements an effective programme reflection, monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management architecture. This role ensures the alignment of all country program (CP) activities with WaterAid’s strategic objectives, supporting the achievement of maximum impact in the WASH sector in Nigeria and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Ensure the country program meets WaterAid’s global accountability commitments.
- Lead the development and implementation of processes that align CP plans and activities with the overall strategy.
- Oversee the design of program proposals, budgets, logframes, indicators, and measurement methodologies.
- Coordinate monitoring of strategy implementation, including midterm reviews and evaluations.
- Advocate for the full utilization of Project Centre and support colleagues in achieving this.
Team and People Leadership:
- Recruit and manage a high-performing team, fostering a positive work environment.
- Coach and mentor sub-team leaders to maximize their effectiveness.
- Manage the department’s budget, ensuring accountability and effective use of resources.
Research and Knowledge Management:
- Lead the development and implementation of research strategies that generate evidence for WANG’s programs and inform advocacy efforts.
- Promote knowledge sharing and learning across the organization through workshops, seminars, and other platforms.
Cross-Organization Collaboration:
- Actively contribute to the Senior Management Team (SMT) and collaborate across departments to achieve strategic objectives.
- Represent WaterAid in external networks, workshops, and meetings as assigned.
Essential Criteria
- University/Master’s degree in International Development, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
- Strong technical understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning practices.
- Experience in program and budget management, as well as research design.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in managing research projects.
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
