About the Role:

Talent Lab is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as the State Lead for the Nigeria Polio Outbreak Response (POBR) project in Borno. This role is pivotal in supporting the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA) in planning, coordinating, and implementing high-quality Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs) and other critical healthcare initiatives. As the State Lead, you will work closely with state and LGA teams, partners, and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of polio and non-polio SIAs, routine immunizations, and other related activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Campaign Planning and Coordination:

    • Facilitate daily and weekly campaign implementation meetings by documenting meeting notes, tracking action points, and ensuring follow-up on deliverables.
    • Support the SEOC in planning, coordinating, and implementing SIAs, routine immunizations, and other healthcare initiatives.
    • Collaborate with partner organizations to enhance coordination between the state and stakeholders, ensuring the development of comprehensive micro plans and budgets.
    • Monitor campaign preparedness using checklists and dashboards, ensuring activities are completed on time.
  • Data Management and Reporting:

    • Analyze pre-campaign and daily vaccination data to assess preparedness, identify challenges, and provide actionable insights.
    • Track key metrics such as vaccine coverage rates, missed communities, vaccine hesitancy, and wastage rates, providing real-time data to support decision-making.
    • Prepare and archive technical documents, reports, briefing notes, and advocacy materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Special Intervention Supervision:

    • Supervise and support the planning and execution of polio campaigns in security-compromised areas.
    • Manage the special intervention team at the state and LGA levels, ensuring the delivery of high-quality polio campaigns.
  • Capacity Building:

    • Strengthen the capacity of state teams through on-the-job training and mentoring, enabling local staff to take on project management responsibilities.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to state teams in the effective management of polio campaign activities.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Background:

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or qualifications in MBBS, Pharmacy, or Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is an added advantage.
  • Professional Experience:

    • At least 5-10 years of experience in public health interventions, with a focus on polio, routine immunization, and other health programs.
    • Previous experience working with organizations funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) is highly desirable.
  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong project management and coordination skills, with the ability to lead and manage complex healthcare initiatives.
    • Excellent analytical skills, with experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
    • Fluency in the local dialects of the Borno region is an added advantage.
